Pilot Training Micro-Learning Case Study

With Air Tindi

Strengthening Pilot Decision Making with Scenario-Based Micro-Learning

KnowledgeNow partnered with Air Tindi to design and develop a structured recurrent ground school training program for airline pilots, ensuring they remained proficient in critical aircraft systems and emergency procedures. The training was divided into four structured components:

  1. System Overview

  2. System Limitations

  3. Emergency Procedures

  4. Knowledge Check

This approach allowed pilots to progress through essential technical concepts before applying their knowledge in real-world scenarios.

A key innovation in the program was the micro-learning approach used in the emergency procedures section. Here, pilots engaged in scenario-driven exercises that required them to identify and respond to in-flight system warnings. Using Storyline-built activities integrated into Rise, learners analyzed warning and caution panels, determined which system was affected, and followed the correct emergency procedures step by step. These exercises were designed to reinforce rapid decision-making, procedural accuracy, and operational safety, ensuring pilots could respond effectively under pressure.

To support knowledge retention and real-world application, each module included a downloadable reference from the aircraft manual, allowing pilots to cross-check procedures and reinforce learning beyond the course. Additionally, successful completion of these interactive exercises was a prerequisite for advancing to the final knowledge check, ensuring that learners could not simply memorize information but had to demonstrate competency in practical, system-specific scenarios.

By embedding micro-learning into emergency response training, the program enhanced engagement, reinforced decision-making under time-sensitive conditions, and improved overall procedural recall. This approach proved particularly effective in bridging theoretical knowledge with hands-on operational readiness, creating a more immersive and retention-focused training experience for pilots.
